The $97 question: what are you actually using?
ClickFunnels prices for the whole suite, whether you use it or not. Audit a typical account that runs lead-gen campaigns and you find one or two active funnels, an email list that lives in a separate ESP anyway, and an unused course area. That is roughly $1,200/yr of mostly idle software.
Formspring's funnel builder ships in the $19/mo Pro plan alongside forms, surveys, and short links - 5,000 submissions a month, unlimited funnels. The Team plan ($49/mo) raises the cap to 25,000 and adds role-based access. There is no funnel-specific add-on pricing and no per-funnel fee. The trade is explicit: no checkout, no courses, no broadcast email. If those words are not in your requirements, the suite premium buys you nothing.
Measurement is where lead-gen funnels are won
A lead-gen funnel is only as good as its attribution. Formspring captures ad-platform click IDs (fbclid, gclid, ttclid) on the session that enters the funnel, then delivers conversions server-side to Meta, TikTok, Google Enhanced Conversions, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Microsoft Advertising - with deterministic event IDs so client and server events deduplicate cleanly, and a circuit breaker so one slow ad API never delays your visitor.
In ClickFunnels you typically reach the same end state with a tag manager, a conversion-API relay, and an external dashboard. It works, but it is three more systems to maintain and three more places attribution can silently break.
Quiz logic, scoring, and calculated variables
Formspring's logic layer has three parts. Rules decide which screen a visitor sees next, evaluated against any earlier answer. Scoring assigns points per answer so each completed session carries a numeric lead score. Formulas compute derived variables - a quote estimate, a BMI, a budget band - that you can display on screen or pass downstream.
That combination is what quiz funnels actually need, and it lands in your webhook payload as structured data. ClickFunnels' strength is the workflow that happens after the opt-in; the in-funnel logic itself is comparatively thin, which is why heavy quiz builders on ClickFunnels often bolt on a separate quiz tool.
A/B testing without a traffic-splitting service
Every Formspring funnel can run weighted variants. Assignment is deterministic and sticky - the same visitor always lands in the same variant, with no flicker and no cookie gymnastics - and the analytics view breaks sessions and conversions down per variant, per screen, and per device, including drop-off rates between screens. ClickFunnels also does split testing well; the difference is that Formspring includes it at $19/mo rather than as part of a suite price, and exposes the results through the API as well as the dashboard.
What happens after the lead converts
Formspring is not an email marketing platform, and this comparison should be honest about it. What it has are automations attached to the funnel: when a submission arrives, you can send templated emails, wait a defined interval, branch on answers or score, tag the lead, call an HTTP endpoint, or fire additional webhooks. That covers confirmation mails, routing hot leads to sales, and CRM sync.
What it does not cover is broadcast campaigns, newsletters, or month-long nurture sequences - keep your ESP for those. ClickFunnels can replace the ESP outright; whether that consolidation is worth the suite price is the core of this decision.
When ClickFunnels is the right call
If you sell digital products with order bumps and one-click upsells, host a course behind the funnel, or run your affiliate program through the same tool, ClickFunnels is the category leader and Formspring does not attempt to compete there. The switch makes sense when your funnels end at a qualified lead rather than a credit-card payment - and at that point the comparison is $19/mo with stronger tracking and developer tooling against ~$97/mo with idle commerce features.
Post-fight game plan
Migration Blueprint
- Inventory your funnel. In ClickFunnels, list each step (opt-in, qualifying questions, thank-you) and the elements on it. Formspring funnels are organised as screens of blocks, so most ClickFunnels steps map one-to-one to a screen.
- Rebuild screens from the element palette. Recreate each step using the 32 builder elements - multiple choice, picture selection, rating, contact info, address, file upload, plus content blocks like headings, video, FAQ, and countdown. Start from a lead-gen template to skip layout work.
- Recreate logic and scoring. ClickFunnels conditional steps become Formspring rules (show/skip screens based on answers). If you score leads in a downstream tool today, move that into the funnel itself: assign points per answer and compute variables with formulas, so the score arrives with the submission.
- Swap pixel IDs and enable server-side delivery. Enter your Meta, TikTok, Google, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Microsoft Advertising IDs in the funnel's tracking settings. Add your conversion API tokens so events also fire server-side with deduplicated event IDs - click IDs are captured per session automatically.
- Reconnect the lead pipeline. Point a signed webhook (
X-Formspring-Signature,t=…,v1=…) at your CRM endpoint, or rebuild your follow-up as an automation: send email, delay, branch on score, call an HTTP endpoint. - Re-point your domain. Add your funnel domain in Formspring, verify DNS, and once it resolves, 301-redirect the old ClickFunnels URLs. Run both funnels in parallel for a week and compare per-screen drop-off before you cancel.
