Breadth vs. focus is a real trade

Jotform's catalog approach is legitimately useful for some teams: if your workflow needs a form that takes payment, routes through a two-step approval, generates a signed PDF, and files itself into a table, Jotform does all of that under one login. Formspring deliberately doesn't. The bet is that most teams need forms, surveys, and lead funnels done excellently - with logic, analytics, and compliance built in - more than they need forty adjacent features each done adequately. Pick the shape that matches your actual workflow, not the longest feature list.

What one unified builder changes

In Formspring, a contact form, an NPS survey, and a scored quiz funnel are the same skill. Same element palette, same logic engine, same dashboard, same webhook signing. Your team learns the builder once; a survey screen can be rearranged into a funnel without re-platforming. Jotform's equivalent journey crosses classic forms, card forms, and separate apps with different capabilities per surface - workable, but you feel the seams, and so does whoever maintains it.

Webhooks your security team will accept

Jotform delivers webhooks, but without standardized payload signing - receivers typically trust the endpoint URL's obscurity. Formspring signs every webhook with SHA-256 HMAC in the Stripe pattern (t=…,v1=… header), so your receiver proves authenticity and freshness in a few lines of any language. If submissions touch a CRM, billing, or anything regulated, that's not a nice-to-have; it's the difference between an integration that passes security review and one that gets flagged.

Honest accounting: where Jotform wins

Three real gaps, stated plainly. Formspring has no payment fields - Jotform's 40+ gateway integrations stand alone in this comparison. Formspring has no e-signature element - Jotform Sign is a genuine product. And Formspring's curated template set will never out-count a library of 10,000. If any of those three is the job to be done, Jotform is the right call and this page just saved you a trial. If the job is surveys with logic, quotas, analytics, and EU compliance, read on.

Compliance by default, not by tier

Jotform offers EU hosting options at certain plan levels and HIPAA features on others - compliance as a ladder. Formspring flattens it: every plan stores data only in EU data centres in Germany and Finland, every paid plan includes a DPA, and per-survey retention rules auto-delete responses on your schedule. Pro at $19/mo includes the lot, alongside 5,000 monthly submissions and 5 GB of private file storage; there is no compliance upsell waiting at renewal.

Post-fight game plan

Migration Blueprint

Most Jotform surveys move to Formspring in an afternoon:

  1. Export your submissions. Jotform Tables → download as CSV/Excel per form. Save PDF copies of any submission documents you generated - those won't have an equivalent.
  2. Rebuild in the unified builder. Whether the original was a classic or card-style Jotform, it becomes one multi-screen Formspring survey. Field widgets map to elements: scales → rating/NPS, grids → matrix, image picks → picture selection, uploads → file upload (25 MB, private EU storage).
  3. Recreate conditions as logic rules. Jotform's show/hide and skip conditions translate into Formspring rule groups - with the upgrade that rules can also write typed variables for scoring and toggle required fields.
  4. Re-wire integrations. Point your Zapier/Make scenarios at Formspring's triggers, or replace polling with HMAC-signed webhooks your backend can verify.
  5. Swap the published links in emails, embeds, and QR codes, run both tools for a week of parallel traffic, then retire the Jotform.

Frequently asked

Can Formspring take payments like Jotform?
No. There is no payment element in the Formspring builder. If your forms charge cards at submission time, Jotform (or Typeform's Stripe field) is the better fit. Teams sometimes pair a Formspring survey with a payment link on the thank-you screen, but that's a workaround, not a feature.
Is Formspring cheaper than Jotform?
At the paid entry point, yes: Pro is $19/mo with 5,000 submissions versus Jotform's first paid tier around $34/mo with lower caps that also meter form views. At the free level it depends: Jotform's free plan allows limited survey-style forms with branding; Formspring's free plan is forms-only - surveys require Pro.
What happens to my Jotform conditional logic?
Show/hide, skip, and calculation conditions rebuild as Formspring logic rules: condition groups over answers, hidden URL parameters, and typed variables, with jump targets and variable mutations as outcomes. Calculations move into variables, which also power quiz scoring.
Does Formspring have something like Jotform Tables or Report Builder?
Submissions live in a filterable dashboard with CSV export, per-screen drop-off analytics, and AI-generated summaries of open-text answers. There is no spreadsheet-style table product or drag-and-drop report designer - export to your own tools, or sync rows to Google Sheets via the integration.
How do file uploads compare?
Formspring accepts files up to 25 MB per upload into private EU storage, downloadable only through time-limited signed URLs; Pro includes 5 GB total, Team 50 GB. Jotform's storage allowances are per plan tier and files are tied to its US or tier-dependent EU infrastructure.
