The honest part

Where Formspree might still be your pick.

A comparison that claims a clean sweep isn't worth much. Two honest cases where Formspree could be the better call today:

  1. 1

You want the lowest entry price, full stop

If the only thing that matters is the cheapest paid plan and you collect just a handful of responses a month, Formspree can come in lower. Worth weighing if budget is the single deciding factor.

  2. 2

You already lean on a Formspree-specific recipe

Formspree has been around a while, so a few older community add-ons are built specifically for it. If your setup depends on one of those, factor the switch-over effort in before you move.

If either of those is you, stick with Formspree - and come back if your needs change.

Good questions

Frequently asked

How is Formspring different from Formspree?
Three things drive most switches. First, EU data residency: Formspring stores submissions and files in Germany (Hetzner), Formspree is US-only. Second, signed webhooks: Formspring sends Stripe-pattern HMAC-SHA256 headers any modern receiver verifies, Formspree`s signing is more bespoke. Third, AI moderation and categorization are built in on paid plans - useful for high-volume contact forms - and not available on Formspree at all.
How long does it take to migrate from Formspree to Formspring?
Most static-site teams finish in under five minutes. Sign up at Formspring (no card), create a form, copy the new endpoint URL, and replace the action attribute on your HTML form. Existing fetch() and curl call sites change only the URL. Webhook receivers usually need a one-line constant change to the HMAC secret, because both products body-encode identically.
Is the Formspring free tier really free?
Yes. 50 submissions per month, one form, no time limit, no credit card. The free tier supports the dashboard, email notifications, honeypot, hCaptcha, and Akismet reputation scoring. File uploads and signed webhooks are paid features. Over-quota submissions return HTTP 402 so the visitor sees a real error rather than data being silently dropped.
Where is my data stored?
Submissions and uploaded files live in EU regions only - Hetzner Falkenstein and Helsinki. The sub-processors page at /sub-processors lists every vendor and the country it operates in. Team-plan customers can pin a specific EU region for compliance reasons. Data is never silently moved out of the EU.
Can I import my Formspree submission history?
Not automatically - intentional, for privacy. Formspring will not pull data from a third-party account on your behalf. You can export from Formspree as CSV and POST historical rows through the Formspring API if you need continuity. Most teams keep the old account read-only for a billing cycle and start fresh on the new endpoint.
Does Formspring offer a Data Processing Addendum (DPA)?
Yes, on every paid plan. The DPA is auto-countersigned and downloadable from the dashboard. Formspree gates the DPA behind enterprise plans, which is a blocker for many EU teams under GDPR Article 28.
What happens to my Formspree integrations?
Most keep working. Zapier, Slack, Discord, Google Sheets, and email-forwarding integrations use webhook or polling patterns that are identical on Formspring. The webhook signature header name changes (from x-formspree-signature to x-formspring-signature) and the secret changes, but the verification logic is unchanged because both use Stripe-pattern HMAC.
How does the refund policy work?
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually with no contract. Cancel any time from billing settings - access continues to the end of the billing period and no further charge is made. Annual customers can request a prorated refund within 30 days of purchase. There is no clawback on submissions already collected.
