Link a feedback idea to the issues that deliver it. Formspring keeps their status next to the idea, so you can see what is blocking a release without opening three tools.
Availability: awaiting provider verification. The Linear, GitHub and Jira connections are built and tested against recorded responses, but have not passed a live test in a real account, so they are off by default. Ask your administrator to enable them.
Connect a tracker
- Open Settings → Issue trackers.
- Choose Linear, GitHub or Jira and enter the access details. Formspring checks them before saving.
- Copy the webhook link into the tracker so status changes reach Formspring. The signing secret is shown once.
Access details are stored encrypted and are never shown again.
Link issues to an idea
On an idea, open Development:
- Create issue sends the idea title and text to the tracker. The text is placed in a code block so it cannot mention people.
- Link issue attaches an existing issue by link or key. It must belong to the repository, team or project you connected.
- One idea can have several issues. Mark an issue optional if the idea does not wait for it.
Shipping rule
An idea with required issues cannot move to a finished status until each of them is done. A canceled issue does not count as done. If the work shipped without the issue, a person can record a manual decision with a reason; it is stored with their name and the time, and it is cleared when you add another required issue.
Ideas without linked issues work as before.
Status sync
Status changes in the tracker reach the idea once, even if the tracker sends the webhook again. Changes Formspring made itself are recognised and not applied back. When the two sides disagree, the setting When statuses differ decides: the tracker wins, Formspring wins, the newest change wins, or you are asked to review.
Turn on Close linked issues when an idea ships to write the done state back to the tracker. Linear needs a state ID and Jira a transition ID for that; GitHub needs nothing extra.
Limits
- Jira Cloud only. Sign-in through the tracker's own app (OAuth) is not available yet; use an access token.
- Linear and Jira do not allow Formspring to prevent a duplicate if a request times out after the issue was created. Check the tracker if an issue looks doubled.
